AbstractIn this experiment, the effects of organic selenium supplemented at 0.150, 0.200, 0.250 and 0.300 ppm in replace of inorganic selenium which is added to commercial ration at 0.15 ppm, on body weight, body weight gain, feed intake, feed efficiency, mortality rate, dressing percentage values and tissue selenium retention were investigated. In experiment, 1500 day-old commercial broiler chicks were used and bird allocated to 5 treatment groups, each having 3 replicates according to "Randomized Blocks Design". Experimental diets were randomly allocated to 100 birds experimental units, bird fed ad libitum. The experiment lasted for 6 weeks and body weights and feed intake values were taken weekly, and mortality was recorded daily. At the end of the experiment live weight 1700, 1850, 1768, 1803 and 1771 g (p<0.05); average body weight gain (0-6 week) 1663, 1814, 1732, 1767 and 1735 g (p<0.05); average feed intake 3270, 3331, 3230, 3283 and 3298 g, average feed efficiencies 1.97, 1.84, 1.86, 1.86 and 1.90; mortality rate; 9.00, 10.33, 11.00, 9.60 and 11.15 (%); hot and cold dressing percentage values 72.09, 67.65, 68.56, 69.08 and 67.87 (%); 70.97, 66.65, 67.44, 68.07 and 67.02 (%); selenium concentration in the breast and thigh tissue; 0.5118, 0.5295, 0.6761, 0.8355 and 0.8914; 0.3950, 0.4428, 0.5195, 0.5585, 0.6550 ppm (p<0.05) were determined for the groups, respectively. The Cost of live weight gain for all fattening periods were 547 766, 515 617, 525 724, 524 599 and 538 563 TL respectively.
