AbstractTraditional approaches to metaphor construct the concept as a deviant or exception. As of twentieth century, the transformation process regarding the perception of the concept has developed to the point with the contribution of several research endeavors that whether metaphor has an ontological significance or not. Through this dissertation it is addressed that if the ontological features of metaphors bring about an importance regarding the political and the political science. In this framework, the thoughts of the forthcoming political thinkers on metaphor and how they deal with the concept through their political theory is analyzed. In this section of the research a selective methodological approach is used and an overall assessment of the political literature is precluded. Consequently, except La Boetié and Machiavelli, it is reached that the dominant tendency regarding metaphor is about its threatening features on truth and, at best the metaphor must be excluded from science and philosophy for to reach meaningful truth. Construction of the truth as if it is something natural or given instead of fictional construction paved the way for the evident conclusions regarding politics and the political. While metaphor is assessed indispensable for political legitimacy, beyond this point its ontological features are denied. This assumption inevitably put forward a perspective that fixes the state and power on the focus of the political thus closes the openness of the political potentiality. In order to overcome this issue, a turn is made to evaluate the contributions of political anthropology regarding political analysis. In a nutshell, political anthropology made possible a reflection on political beyond state and power oriented approaches. In this framework, the concept of metaphor is analyzed through the axes of myth, ritual, violence and power. Regarding the indiscrete (primitive) societies as being the subject of the anthropology it is concluded that the significance of metaphors through their appearances in ritual contexts comprises an indispensable value for all of the society particularly for legitimizing the life itself.
