| dc.description.abstract | ÖZET Yabancı dilde bilgisayar yazılımı ile sözcük öğrenimi - bir model denemesi Yelbay Yılmaz, Yasemin Doktora, Dilbilim Ana Bilim Dalı Tez Danışmanı: Prof. Dr. İclal Ergenç Mayıs, 2011, 11+238 sayfa Bu çalışma, yabancı dilde sözcük öğreniminde kullanılan sözcük öğrenme yöntemlerinin bazı eksiklik ve yetersizliklerinin gözlemlenmesi üzerine bu eksikliklerin giderilmesine katkıda bulunmak amacıyla bir model geliştirilmesi hedefiyle hazırlanmıştır. Bu model geliştirme çalışmasının genel çerçevesini, dilbilim ve öğrenme kuramlarına dayalı ve çoklu ortamda öğrenim ilkesini kapsayan bir sözcük öğrenme bilgisayar yazılımının geliştirilmesi oluşturmaktadır. Temel dilbilim kuramlarının yabancı dil öğrenimine bir bilgisayar yazılımı olarak uyarlanması bu çalışmayı özgün kılan bir özelliktir. Çalışmada deney ve kontrol gruplu deneysel bir desen kullanılmıştır. Nicel veri toplama araçları, geçerlik ve güvenilirlik çalışmalarının ardından geliştirilen ön test, BİG16 öğrenme biçemi envanteri, Parole adı verilen ve bu araştırma için geliştirilen bilgisayar yazılımı ve ön testin farklı iki zamanda daha uygulanmasından oluşan son test ve kalıcılık testleri oluşturmaktadır. Nitel veri toplama aracı olarak da uygulamanın ardından öğrencilerle geliştirilen görüşmeler kullanılmıştır. Toplanan veriler istatistiksel olarak değerlendirilmiş ve 236 sonuçlara bu şekilde ulaşılmıştır. Sonuçlara dayanılarak alana katkı sağlayabilecek öneri ve vargılara ulaşılmıştır. Çalışma sonucunda ortaya çıkan bulgulara dayanılarak şu sonuçlara ulaşılmıştır: Parole, yabancı dilde sözcük öğrenmek amaçlı olarak kullanılabilecek etkili bir öğrenme modelidir, sözcükler bu model ile daha verimli ve daha kalıcı olarak öğrenilmektedirler. Cinsiyet etkeninin bu modelin daha verimli kullanılmasına her hangi bir etkisi bulunmamaktadır bir başka deyişle kullanıcının kadın ya da erkek olmasının modelin etkinliği üzerinde bir etkisi yoktur. Kullanıcının öğrenme biçeminin de bu modelin verimli kullanımasında her hangi bir etkisi yoktur başka deyişle modelin verimli olması kullanıcının öğrenme biçeminden bağımsızdır. Modeli daha uzun süre kullanan kişiler sözcükleri daha verimli ve daha kalıcı olarak öğrenmişlerdir. Bu bulgulara dayanarak varılan sonuç, Parole’nin yabancı dilde sözcük öğrenmek için etkili bir model olduğudur. ABSTRACT Learning vocabulary in a foreign language – a computer software based model attempt Yelbay Yılmaz, Yasemin Doctorate, Department of Linguistics Thesis Advisor: Prof. Dr. İclal Ergenç May, 2011, 11+238 pages This study has been conducted upon observing some insufficiencies and deficiencies in the current methods used for learning vocabulary in a foreign language and aims at devising a new model that could contribute to making up for those deficiencies. The general framework of this study consists of linguistics theories, learning theories and computer based instruction which altogether are used to devise a computer software for learning vocabulary in a foreign language. The characteristic that makes this study authentic is that foundation linguistics theories have been adapted to the foreign language vocabulary learning context using a computer software. An experimental design with control and experiment groups has been used in the study. Quantitative data collection instruments are the pre test that has been devised after validity and reliability work, the BİG16 learning styles inventory, the computer software that has been devised for this study and coined ‘Parole’ and the post test and the permanance test which are the implementation of the pre test at two different times. The qualitative data collection instruments are the interviews done with some of the students after 238 the implementation of the study. All collected data have been statistically evaluated and conclusions have been drawn. Suggestions have been made based upon these conclusions. It has been found at the end of the study that Parole is an effective model and tool that could be used to learn vocabulary in a foreign language; that words are learned more effectively and permanently using this method; that gender does not have any effect on the efficiency of the model in other words that the success of the model is not related to the gender of the user; that learnig styles do not have an effect on the model, in other words that the success of the model is not related to what the user’s learning style is; and that users who use the model for longer durations learn words more effectively and permanently. Based on these findings, it has been concluded that Parole is an effective model to be used to learn vocabulary in a foreing language. | |
