AbstractThis study is composed of five chapters: History of the Puppet, Aesthetics of the Puppet, Object Theatre, Child and Puppet, The Dramaturgy and Regie Interpretation of 'While You were Away?' In the first chapter of the study the historical development of the puppet in the Western tradition from the antiquity to the 19th century is tried to be explained. In the second chapter of this study an attempt to investigate the modern puppetry understanding and aesthetics is made. In order to consider the aesthetics of the puppet in detail, in this chapter the puppet is analyzed in three parts, under the titles of The Puppet and Puppeteer Relation, The Puppet and Actor Relation, and The Puppet and Audience Relation. The emphasis on the puppet's "metamorphosis from a non-living object to a living existence which animated by the power of imagination" in the contemporary puppetry leads to the birth of the 'Object Theatre' in which the daily objects are also perceived as a kind of puppet. Even the daily objects start to create meaning on the stage by their own and the 'Object Theatre' continues its development as a genre. In the 3rd chapter, it is attempted to define the Object Theatre which has an important place in contemporary puppetry. In the 4th chapter an attempt is made to question the relation between child and puppet, and to explain the place of the Object Theatre in the children world. And finally, in the light of all these opinions and studies text is prepared in the genre of Object Theatre for a sample study. This text is formed with the influence of Sevim Ak's story 'All roads lead to Rome" and of Réne Goscinny's story 'I am Escaping from Home', and is written keeping in mind that it will be staged as an object theatre. The effort to write a suitable text for the object theatre provided new ways of expression for the dramatist. Carrying this text on the stage, the value and importance of object theatre as a rich expression tool in the Children's Theatre is underlined once more.
