Abstract With the transition from feudalism to capitalism, economic and social structure of society is changed. Unlike the former production mode, the novel production mode has improved over exchange value. As the exchange value becomes the principal assessment in economy, the labor that farms raw materials devaluated, and commodity itself is appreciated. In centuries, this situation, herein called as commodity fetishism, is widespread in all over the world. The commodity fetishism has emerged with commodity production. Generalization of the production all over the world is a key point for the commodity fetishism. Because of this, the production systems that increase commodity production has to be examined. As traditional production mode evolves to Taylorist production system, commoditization is increased. Afterwards, with Fordist assembly line, rate of commoditization is raised even more; thus commodity fetishism becomes more dominant in society. Finally, after flexible/post-Fordist production system, brands and newer models of productsare appreciated by consumers and thus, commodity fetishism has been an essentialfact beyond the exchange value. This has evolved the commodity fetishism to anideological illusion. In the capitalist mode of production -unlike other production modes-, labor isconsidered as a commodity that is bought and sold. This allows employers to createhegemony on labor. With this hegemony, employers exploit labor to improveefficiency of production and as a result labor has become an object of fetishism too.
