Abstract Motion estimation is used to save transmitter power and bandwidth in image transmission, especially in video coding and video processing systems. Up to now lots of studies in different constitution were performed for motion estimation and block matching, one of which studies was supported by lots of international video coding standarts such as ISO, MPEG–1, MPEG–2, MPEG–4, ITU H.261, H.263, H.26L etc. In this study, motion estimation of one or more moving object based on the block matching method and determination of motion vectors were discussed. Multi-varient features and temporary formations between frames were introduced and motion evaluation based on these information was performed. After getting the edges of the moving object, scanning of only these regions in the referance frame was implemented for the approximation of the motion estimation to video quality. This process made considerable profit in scanning time, by instead of first scaning of a probable moving object in entire frame, just by determination of the place of the object where it was and providing scanning of this object only close to this block.
