Bu bağlamda yaptığımız araştırmada Kur’an- ı Kerim’e, temel hadis kaynaklarına, sözlüklere, İslam tarihi kitaplarına müracaat edilmiştir. Çalışmamız, toplumlara göre değişen kadın algılarından, Arap toplumunun genel özelliklerinden, Medine dönemi İslam toplumunun özelliklerinden, meskenler, geçim kaynakları, yeme-içme ve giyim kültüründen ve kadın-erkek ilişkilerini temel alan sosyal hayattan oluşmaktadır. Ana konuyu oluşturması sebebiyle her bölümde, kadınlara ilişkin bilgiler üzerinde durulmuştur. Yaptığımız araştırma sonucunda Müslüman hanımların, sosyal hayatta oldukça aktif, siyasi meselelerle ilgili, ilmi faaliyetlerde azimli oldukları; ticarette, el sanatlarında, sağlık hizmetlerinde maharet kazanan hanımların bu yeteneklerinden, savaş ve barış zamanlarında istifade edildiği; İslam’ın gereklerine riayette titiz olmakla birlikte, erkekleri görmeme, onlarla muhatap olmama gibi bir çekincelerinin olmadığı tespit edilmiştir. Hz. Peygamber devrinde, 116 kadınları eksik gören veya ikinci plana iten bir anlayış görmek mümkün değildir. Aksine, Kur’an ve Hz. Peygamber’in, kadın haklarına riayet üzerinde titizlikle durduğu görülmektedir. ABSTRACT Since the presence of the Messenger of Allah prevented any misinterpretations of the religion during his life time, biographies of the first followers of Islam contain essential criteria for understanding the worldview of Islam. Our study deals with the daily practices of the time of Muhammad and the special role of women in that society. In this context, we have consulted the principle Hadith sources, dictionaries and the sources of Islamic history. Our study involves the issues such as the perceptions of women in different societies, general characteristics of Arabic society and Islamic society in the Madinan period, its sources of income, eating habits, dressing codes and social life based on man-woman relations. Each particular issue is elaborated in the context of our main topic, that is the woman issues. The main conclusions of our study are as follows: during the life time of the Messenger of Allah, Muslim women were actively engaged in social and political life of the society. They were eager in scholarly activities. Merited women were actively employed in hand-crafts, health services and the like during peace and war times. Women were highly sensitive in following the precepts of Islam and yet they did not have any reservations for seeing and interacting men in daily life. During the prophet’s life time, women were not considered as secondary, as they were not pushed to the fringes of the society. To the contrary, both the Quran and the Prophet emphasize the rights of women.
