Prof. Dr. Deniz Deryakulu January 2003, 99 pages This study was realized to determine the effects of using different strategies in computarised and non-computerised media on the quantity of learned vocabulary, time spent to learn and retention of learning English vocabulary. Experimental procedures of the research was operationalized on a group of students from School of Foreing Languages at Middle East Technical University at the level of beginner and intermediate and on a group of registered users of the web site wordtest.com in the 2001-2002 spring term. This study was planned and implemented in the form of 4x3 mixed design. Before beginning the research, a pre-test was used to determine the 200 unknown vocabularies for each student and then started to research. Every student made vocabulary learning activities in every single weekday in the research week for half an hour. After completing these activities, the quantity of the vocabulary which students learned was measured. Two more measures were performed one week and three weeks later from the first measure to determine how much vocabulary still remembered by the students.VII The data collected in this research were interpreted by using mean and ANOVA techniques in SPSS 10.0 to determine the quantity of learned vocabulary, average time spent for every vocabulary and retention of vocabularies.trEğitim ve Öğretimİngilizce sözcük öğrenmede farklı stratejilerin bilgisayarlı ve bilgisayarsız ortamda kullanımının öğrenilen sözcük miktarı, öğrenme için harcanan zaman ve öğrenilenlerin kalıcılığı üzerindeki etkisiThe effects of using different strategies in computerised media on the quantity of learned vocabulary, time spent to learn and retention of learning English vocabularymasterThesis
