Alemdar, KorkmazÜstün, Hasan2022-06-152022-06-152000http://hdl.handle.net/20.500.12575/81856this is a descriptive study of press history and an investigation examining the events which took place after the announcement on 10 January 1961 of the decision by nine newspaper owners to halt publication for three days in protest against new laws concerning the press, known in Turkish media history as the "Nine Bosses in Babıali" incident. In this investigation, in addition to Akşam, Cumhuriyet, Dünya, Hürriyet, Milliyet, Tercüman, Vatan, Yeni İstanbul and Yeni Sabah, the newspapers participating in the boycott, use as an intensive information source has been made of Basin newspaper published on the three days from 1 1 January 1961 to 13 January 1961. First hand historical information has been collected from the statements of witnesses to the events. This investigation, which aims to shed light on the methods and problems in the organisation and quest for rights of the Turkish press, and presents the answer to the question of how journalists with no experience of such a struggle went into action against the bosses and caused the political administration to carry out legal regulation negatively affecting the profits of the bosses. According to this, it is possible for journalists in Turkey to obtain professional rights with the support of the political administration. During the course of the 10 January events, both the newspaper owners and the journalists achieved a solidarity in seeking their own class advantages which was not to be repeated in Turkish press history.
