Elektrokimyasal, mekanokimyasal ve modifiye Hummers yöntemleriyle grafen oksit (GO) üretilmiş,
Since 3-dimensional (3D) graphene has high mechanical strength, surface area, electrical conductivity and
ultra-low density energy storage systems are among the main applications. In the scope of this thesis, it is
aimed to synthesize and characterize graphene-based monolithic electrodes which can be used in
applications requiring high energy density. Moreover, it is aimed to investigate the potential use of asproduced 3D graphene structures as electrode material in Li-ion batteries and supercapacitors, and as
oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) electrocatalyst in fuel cells and Li-air cells. Graphene oxide (GO) was
produced by electrochemical, mechochemical and modified Hummers’ methods, and GO produced by the
modified Hummers method was selected as the starting material for 3D graphene production. The templateassisted synthesis and self-assembly methods was tried to synthesize 3D graphene structures. In templateassisted synthesis, nitrogen doped graphene (N-GN) structures were produced in different N% (by weight).
In the synthesize of 3D graphene by self-assembly method, the effects of reducing agent, cross-linking
agent, production method and conditions on 3D graphene formation and morphology were investigated.
While physicochemical characterization of the structures was performed by FTIR, SEM, BET, Raman,
XRD and XPS analyzes, electrochemical characterization was carried out by using potentiostat/ galvanostat
in three-electrode and two-electrode electrochemical cells with cycling voltammetry (CV) and constant
current charge/discharge (GCD) techniques in different aqueous electrolyte mediums. The electrocatalytic
activity towards the ORR was evaluated by the hydrodynamic voltammetry technique using a rotating disc
electrode (RDE). The equivalent series resistances (ESR) of the electrodes were determined by
electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) method. The performance of Li-ion batteries was evaluated
using a Li-ion analyzer.
As a result of the study, graphene/heteroatom doped graphene/3D graphene electrode materials with high
specific surface area, electrical conductivity and mechanical strength were produced by different production
methods. It was proven that mechanical strength can be increased by adding a cross-linking agent to the
structure. Furthermore, by using melamine as a template, it was seen that graphene layers could be
separated, the surface area could be increased and N-atoms could be doped to the structure. It was proven
the heteroatoms and the metal atoms in the sturcture could significantly increase the electrochemical
properties. It was concluded that the produced structures could be used as electrode material with high
specific capacitance in supercapacitors and Li-ion batteries and as an effective ORR catalyst in fuel cell
and Li-air batteries.</dim:field>
