Metin YENER 1998, Page: 52 Jury : Prof. Dr. S. Metin YENER Prof. Dr. Naci TÜZEMEN Prof. Dr. INuman AKMAN This research was carried out at the villages of the main district of Diyarbakır proviencc. The aim of the investigation was to find out the general structure of dairy cattle production in the region. The material of the research consisted of 171 farms and 813 milking cows that arc raised in these farms. In addition, 1860 cattle of all ages and both sexes were investigated within the framework of general evaluation. According to the findings in the research, the distribution of farms by size in LU were described as follows : small farms of 1-5 LU 47 %, medium size farms of 6-10 LU 29 %, and larger farms having 1 1 or more LU, 24%. İt was found that of the total cultivated land area at the villages of the main district 1.17% was used for the production of forage crops.
