Abstract
The subject of this thesis is the responses, thinks and behaviours of thehumans towards environmental problems through ecological anthropology theory inthe context of human environmental relationships. In this study quantitative method is used. The environmental problems inAntakya are determined and questions focusing on human-environment relationshipsare prepared by drawing upon these problems. The data needed is collected by usinga questionaire with 367 people. In accordance with the results of the study, the problems of natural andhistorical-cultural environment and urbanization is identified in the city and theseproblems effected not only humans but also environment. The resources of theseproblems are determined as human activities. In accordance with the results of theapplication; the citizens are predominantly seem to blame themselves and localadministrations, the citizens have general information and remark on theenvironmental problems and the results of these problems, the citizens think ofthemselves as crucial actors on resolving the environmental problems. But in spite ofall these results, the individuals didn?t have a strong reaction to the environmentalproblems. These results demonstrate that behaviours of the individuals are effectivefactors on the relationship between the habitants of Antakya and the environment. Inthis context, the nonreactive behaviour of the individuals against environmentalproblems demonstrates that the inhabitants haven?t developed the sensitivity ofprotecting the environment yet. And these results shows us that expecting theindividuals who haven?t got the culture and consciousness towards protecting theenvironment to be powerful actors seems considerably difficult.
