Abstract
This thesis, namely Religious Life in the Aging Process, aims to describe religious life of those university graduates over the age of fifty that live in central districts of Sakarya (Adapazarı,Serdivan,Erenler,Arifiye).The first chapter of the study discusses the ?aging? from sociological and religious point of view. In this context, first general characteristics of religious life, then from the sociological perspective religiosity and typologies of religiosity are examined.In the second chapter, the methodology of the thesis is presented. This research, which is done in the form of descriptive research, relies on the structural-functional theory. Since theories are seen as viewpoints that describe different aspects of social reality, this study benefited from different theories in conformity with its aim, hence it used qualitative and quantitative approaches. In order to collect data, questionary and detailed interview are used together. The results are analysed through SPSS and interviews are used to clarify the results.In the last chapter, in which results of practical study are presented, first general characteristics of sample group are examined from the viewpoint of sex, marital status, number of children, educational status, social-economic status that s/he feels s/he belongs, monthly income, defining himself/herself and working condition. Then perceptions related to aging period are examined. In this context, religious life is examined from four different angles, namely religion and socio-cultural life, religion and social life, religiosity and psychological life and religious orientation.The thesis concludes that in the aging process religion is an important factor in the life of human being and that family, religious education in the childhood, personal studies and environmental factors are main factors that influence the religiosity, that religion is important factor in the organisation of social and economic preferences, free time activities, establishing family and organising family relations, that in the aging process thinking on religion intensify in a positive way and religious practices increases.
