Ahmet Hamdi Tanpınar was one of the important authors who took changes at social structure and individuals' world in other words being unrest to the center of his novels. According to Tanpınar who dedicated all literary and ideational talent to comprehend and interpret the unrest in social structure and individuals' world created from this social change, Turkish literature therefore Turkish novel started with this depression caused from civilization change. Suggesting his criticisms on Western modernism process from civilization change concept, he expressed his solutions in the context of 'to change by proceeding, to proceed by changing' idea. Because the author believed in establishing strong bonds between the past and future, he spotted the past as an opportunity to enrich the present. In brief, according to Tanpınar, the essential thing in process of Western modernization from Ottoman to Republic was to provide cultural continuity first. To make this happen realizing the idea of 'to change by proceeding, to proceed by changing' in community and state was significant for Turkey's mental and spiritual integrity. In the study Western modernization process from Tanzimat to Republic is evaluated in a conceptional and theoric frame encircling from outside first. Later, Tanpınar's mentality world is tried to be put forward regarding sources that effected the author. Finally, his two important novels 'Time Regulation Institute (1954) and Mind at Peace (1948) narrating the unrest Western modernism created in social structure and individuals' world is analyzed with a sociological aspect.
